Basil “Hato” Tobruck, the “Dove of War!”
It’s been nearly 3-years since I published I KNOW WHY THE DOGWOODS BLUSH, my first fictional novel. That tale of retribution from beyond the grave … and the price of love vs. hate … had been spinning in my brain since I was a kid. But it was never intended to be a stand alone, told in one and done tale. As vigilante Frank Castle said at the climax of Punisher: WAR ZONE (2008), “This is just the beginning!”
DOGWOODS BLUSH was to be the first in a “quadrilogy;” my original epic tale chronicling the “end of days.” Heroes and villains from Heaven, Hell and the Earth between begin jockeying for the final battle between good and evil in an overarching story line I call KALI-YUGA … “The Age of Chaos!” DOGWOODS BLUSH went on to be honored by the Military Writers’ Society of America as I began cranking out Part II/IV of my planned story. Then things changed.
BIG NEWS! Dogwoods Blush is now being developed into a screenplay for a motion picture! My partner, multi-talented screenwriter Geno Scala of Shark Eating Man Productions, is cranking it out as I write this post! Get ready to see Jerry Bronson come alive on the screen possibly as early as 2013! And keep checking back here for more information as it develops!

In addition to all the responsibilities of adulthood, (Darn it! I want to be 16 again!) I began working on my labor of love, Crossing The Line (CTL). CTL is the true story of my experiences in Iraq in 1990-1991 and 2004-2005 and the impact that those deployments had on me and my family. It was published in 2011 by Merriam Press and remains one of the most cherished accomplishments of my life. Meanwhile, however, working on my “quadrilogy” stagnated.
In an effort to keep readers interested in the storyline, I launched my free online webcomic, VOID, in October 2010. VOID tells the story of the enigmatic London investigator, Deacon Void. This tale takes place in the same “universe” as DOGWOODS BLUSH and is set in the period between DOGWOODS and the coming Part II/IV.
Who is Void? What is his purpose? Why is he masked? All of these questions are part of the mystery and it has fulfilled my lifelong dream of writing and publishing my own original comic series. VOID will be told in 12-story arcs of 24-26 pages each. We are now in arc #4 (Heart of the Beast!) but you can go back and read his story from the very beginning. If you like scary, suspense thrillers with amazing art and heart-wrenching drama, you’ll like it. I promise you!

And now, it’s almost time for Part II/IV to see print. If all goes as expected, Dove of War will be published this summer (2012). It will pick up where Dogwoods ended and follow the story of Joe LaHoud as he searches for his daughter, missing for the past decade. Where Dogwoods focused on love after death, Dove will focus on the place mankind holds in the coming war with the forces of evil. It’s my most ambitious and controversial novel yet.
We all have many times lamented, “I wish I could try that again knowing what I know NOW!” Really? What if you had the chance to try again to make right the most horrific mistake you ever made? And what if in trying again … and risking failure … you bring even MORE pain and suffering to those around you? And failing again, would you try again? And again? And again? That’s what Basil “Hato” Tobruck must decide. And the fate of mankind hangs in the balance.
Who is Basil Hato? Why is he called “The Dove?” And how does he fit with Deacon Void, Jerry Bronson, Joe LaHoud and all the other characters occupying the “Bill Cain Universe?” The wings of the dove will be unfurled in Summer 2012. Keep checking back here for details.
