03 – Suffer A Witch!
Henry Hallywell and the good people of Lancashire are safe at last from the evil spells of the witch known as Louhi. Or are they?
Historic Fact: While I am no expert, my research on this subject indicates that while those condemned of witchcraft in France were generally burned at the stake, those in England were normally hanged. Thus, Louhi’s sentence was carried out in the manner above.

"Thou hast been condemned of the crime of witchcraft, Louhi Waterhouse! Thereby do I sentence thee to ... DEATH!" Henry Hallywell, 1612.

And witches of England were drowned. Of the three, I would choose the hanging … if I were a condemned witch. Too bad that the lady they hung above was NO WITCH! Wonder how THAT fact will stain their souls. :-/
The “seed” of that question’s answer will be “planted” on the next page! I THINK it will surprise you!
You and Void continually surprise me. Can hardly wait!!!
Me, either! But before that, you must endure … “a VOID CHristmas message!” Hope the ol’ boy has a sense of humor!
Well, we’ve already discovered he has a typical “British” sense of humor!
Really well done artwork. Makes me shiver!
Thanks. This was a tough page … trying to convey the HORROR of the moment while keeping this strictly PG-13. Artist Omaik Blanco’s decision to do the hanging in shadows was the perfect choice. Glad you liked it!!!
Beautiful artwork, almost makes me want to draw again. My favorite was pencils and shading with the lead, so I really love this one. Witches, there is so much unexplainable in this world. I feel sorry for every person innocently killed by poor judgment. For your story though it’s excellent, the shadows are cool, and the mystery I love. Look forward to the Christmas message and the “get even” that is coming. Rest in peace, not a good line then?
Thanks, Eva. Yes, I have been blessed with great artists on VOID. And I am so happy about all the positives for Omaik’s work. He has been a joy to work with. As for the actual witch trials that took place in Europe and the American colonies, yes, they were horrific and tragic. But for the purposes of VOID, this one was the REAL DEAL! RIP? No chance! In many ways, issue #3 is VOID’s creepiest tale yet! You’ll see why very soon!
Do like your pencils. We can only ascribe the sudden need by so many men in power in Europe to slaughter so many women of all classes to the need to wipe out any female power or influence in society. At least then there’s some sort of political reason — otherwise it’s just perverted sexuality, enjoying women suffer. We know there’s enough of that to go around.
Thanks, Donna. And thanks for your interest in VOID! It’s an honor to have you following his story. As for the witch trials of reality, they were indeed tragic cases of mania gone over the edge. But for the purposes of VOID, this would have been one time that the “powers in charge” had it right … but even they had no idea of the powers they were dealing with. That will become obvious very soon and play a major part in the overall story of the man I call … VOID!
