7/12: Casting VOID – Maria Taliffero (Monica Belluci)!
Maria Taliffero is a vicious, evil vampire with a heart as black as sin and an insatiable appetite for human blood and carnage. She and her twin brother, Gabriel, terrorized the Vatican in the 18th and 19th centuries before Gabriel met his end during the Battle of Stalingrad in 1943. She is a major villain and the consort to primary villain Alexandru Vasilie (a being of unknown origin at this time) in my planned 2012 novel, Dove of War. But I like her so much, I felt that I had to include her in Void, especially since this story is a bridge between 2009′s I Know Why the Dogwoods Blush and the planned 2012 release of Dove. Quite unlike the “cool” vampires of Twilight or the sexy black spandex of Kate Beckinsale’s Underworld films, Maria Taliffero is a rage-filled, revenge crazed, psychotic killer. She’s beautiful, but a monster to the core. Thus, the actress who plays her in a film must be beautiful but able to promote menace and rage.
My obvious choice is Italian actress Monica Belluci. Originally a model, Belluci has carved out an impressive acting career, including a stunning depiction of Mary in Mel Gibson’s Passion of the Christ. She’s already played a character similar to this vampire, “The Mirror Queen” in The Brothers Grimm (2005) and has quite an action resume from Matrix: Reloaded and Matrix: Revolution to Shoot ‘Em Up (with Clive Owen) to Tears of the Sun (with Bruce Willis).
Maria Taliffero is actually a “guest star” in the world of Void and will receive her “comeuppance” in 2012 when Dove of War is released. But her impact on Void is undeniable. This modern day siren is evil to the core and she is a worthy opponent to Deacon Void and a legitimate threat to the people under his protection. When I see her in action on the pages of this comic, I see Monica Belluci. I hope you will as well!
